Get outside this year and enjoy access to Washington State public lands by borrowing a backpack with a free Discover Pass through Bellingham Public Library.
Check Out Washington is a collaboration between the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and the Washington State Library to allow individuals to “check out a state park” without paying the parking fee.
Backpacks with a limited-edition Discover Pass are available to library card holders, on a first-come, first-served basis. The Discover Pass allows for parking and access to millions of acres of Washington State parks and other state public lands.
The backpack also includes a set of binoculars, three field guides and a map of all Washington State Parks. Those in Whatcom County include Larrabee State Park, Birch Bay State Park and Peace Arch Historical State Park.
Each backpack with a Discover Pass can be checked out for a three-week period.
The Washington State Legislature funded the cost of the Discover passes for the third year of the program, beginning Mar. 2021 through Feb. 2022.
To borrow this adventure in a pack go to BellinghamPublicLibrary.org, search ‘Check Out Washington Discover Pass’ and place a hold. Don’t have a Bellingham Public Library card? It’s easy to apply at BellinghamPublicLibrary.org.
