Library honors African American History Month in February

African American History Month display at the Central Library.

Bellingham Public Library joins libraries and other organizations locally and across the country recognizing African American History Month in February.

By highlighting this month, we pay tribute to the generations of people who struggled with adversity to achieve full citizenship in American society and we celebrate the achievements of African American people throughout our country’s history and today.

Check out our display on the Main Floor of the Central Library or visit our online list of fiction by African American authors.

National organizations involved in collaborative efforts to recognize African American History Month and provide information resources to support it include the Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

One of the products of these organizations collaborating is an online portal of African American Heritage resources.
