Support Local Kids at Two Children’s Craft Fairs, July 26 and August 16, 2024

Looking for homemade fun this summer? Bellingham Public Library invites the public to attend and shop at two Children’s Craft Fairs:

  • Friday, July 26, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Lee Memorial Park, outside the Central Library
  • Friday, Aug. 16, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the interior halls of Bellis Fair Mall

All items will be priced $5 or less, all sales will be cash only to help kids learn to count money, and everyone is welcome.

More than 100 local children have signed up to sell their handmade treasures at the Children’s Craft Fairs, including Avery, Lula, and Paxon ages 12, 9 and 7, who will be selling bath salts, sugar scrubs, fairy garden stakes, earrings, spider plants and bird seed ornaments this year.

“The Children’s Craft Fair is a fun way for kids to make things and have people see them and buy them. It gives kids a way to share their creativity and for the community to support them,” said their parent, Porcia Juchmes.

The sibling trio agree, saying “it is a fun way of making and sharing the crafts we have worked hard on and it’s fun being part of a big event! Plus – it’s super cool to make money from the things we make. It’s also fun when people visit our booth to check out our goods and to ask questions about what we made.”

The Library’s goal for the Children’s Craft Fairs is to keep local kids engaged and thinking during the summer by using their natural creativity to make products. The young sellers experience the joy of people appreciating their work, and shoppers enjoy finding unique items while supporting youth entrepreneurs.

“We hope as many people as possible will come out to support these kids at the Children’s Craft Fair,” said Children’s Services Librarian Bernice Chang. “Bring small bills in cash and a shopping bag. You never know what amazing item you’ll find that you just have to have!”
